Paul Klaas*

Call: 2014

Overview

Paul Klaas is dual-qualified as a barrister of England and Wales and as a member of the Minnesota (US) bar. He has served as arbitrator or advocate in hundreds of international commercial arbitrations and lawsuits over the past 30 years, particularly in the high technology, aviation/aerospace, health care, media, finance, pharmaceutical, chemical and natural resources industries.

After graduating from the Harvard Law School, Paul joined the Dorsey & Whitney law firm in Minneapolis. In 2005, he moved to London as partner-in-charge of Dorsey's international practice and remained a partner of Dorsey & Whitney (Europe) LLP until he left Dorsey and joined Maitland Chambers in 2015.

Paul now restricts his practice to service as arbitrator or mediator of commercial disputes. For matters seated outside of the United States, Paul is an arbitrator member at Maitland Chambers, London. For matters seated within the United States, he acts solely as principal of North Coast Arbitration Chambers, Minneapolis, and has no connection with Maitland Chambers.

Although Paul is based in London and Minneapolis, he travels extensively and sits on arbitrations globally.

Since leaving Dorsey, Paul has taught the international commercial arbitration courses at the Harvard Law School and at the University of Minnesota Law School, as well as a course on classical and legal rhetoric at Dartmouth College. He is a frequent guest lecturer at other law schools and universities, as well as business schools and continuing legal and medical education seminars around the world.
